THE BUILD GUIDE
How the sea scene was made.
The original build notes described a procedural deep-sea scene: tentacles, light, particles and a depth meter tied to scrolling. These notes describe that early version. The current site also uses a loaded octopus model and locally hosted fonts and libraries.
The original techniques
- GPU-bent tentacles — tapered cylinders deformed entirely in a vertex shader (layered sines for sway, scroll-driven curl, mouse-follow reach). Zero per-frame geometry rebuilds.
- Bioluminescent shading — fresnel rim glow + tip luminance + procedural sucker bands in the fragment shader, per-arm hue seeded cyan→violet.
- Plankton field — 1,400 additive-blended points with per-particle twinkle phase, depth-faded, parallax on scroll.
- Volumetric light shaft — a single additive plane shader, flickering god-ray from the surface.
- Scroll choreography — Lenis + GSAP ScrollTrigger scrub: camera dives 7.5 units, arms curl, depth meter counts to 3200 m, spine dots track sections.
- Craft layer — SVG film grain, vignette veil, cursor lumen (mix-blend screen), corner-bracket CTA, variable-weight Unbounded display type against IBM Plex Mono HUD.
- Discipline — devicePixelRatio capped at 2, rAF paused on hidden tabs, WebGL feature-detect with designed static fallback,
?noanim+prefers-reduced-motionreveal gating, mobile simplification (5 arms, 500 particles).
Assets and libraries
The early scene drew its visuals in shaders, particles and CSS. Its notes used Google-hosted fonts and pinned CDN libraries. The current site keeps fonts and libraries on its own host, alongside its model and preview assets.
Read the starting prompt from the original guide
Build a one-page site for [BRAND], a [WHAT THEY DO] company, as a single self-contained index.html. Concept: [ONE-SENTENCE WORLD — e.g. "a bioluminescent deep-sea dive"]. Dark premium palette ([BG] / [ACCENT] / [SECOND ACCENT]), display font with real personality + a mono HUD font. Build a Three.js scene where [SIGNATURE ELEMENT] is generated procedurally in shaders and reacts to scroll progress (Lenis + GSAP ScrollTrigger scrub) and mouse position. Add a fixed HUD frame (wordmark, coordinates, a meter that counts with scroll), film grain, vignette, and a cursor glow. Sections: hero with a massive two-line headline, two offer cards with mono spec rows, a 4-stat proof band, a 4-step process, and one CTA. Write original copy in the brand's voice — no lorem ipsum. Cap devicePixelRatio at 2, pause rAF when hidden, feature-detect WebGL with a designed fallback, gate reveals behind html.js + ?noanim + prefers-reduced-motion, and keep 375 px clean.
